We value life outside the school's perimeter. Outreach activities promote the idea of social responsibility and promote awareness of others' needs. Here are some examples of activities in which the children have been involved:

  • The Snow Suit Fund: Families collected clothing, and then older children sorted and organized the clothing at the collection depot;
  • The Food Bank: After children collected for the Food Bank, the Chair of the Food Bank spoke to the children and received their donations;
  • Toy Mountain: In partnership with Toronto Dominion Bank, children provided toys for the holiday season by creating a “Student Toy Chain”; and
  • Project Love: Each February our students and their families prepare and send education kits to children in countries selected by CODE (Canadian Organization for Development through Education).

We are always looking for ways to establish links to the Westboro community. For example, each year our choirs are invited to perform and to share at the Churchill Senior Recreation Centre. Students and residents anticipate this annual event. As well, senior citizens are welcome to serve as volunteers in the classrooms. This intergenerational approach is important as children experience firsthand all that people in this community have to offer.

At Churchill, we work to increase cultural awareness and sensitivity. We want to ensure that students appreciate the diversity of Canadian society and communities around the world. Multicultural events and cultural expression have been experienced through events such as multicultural potluck dinners and Festival of Lights.
