Mission and Goal Statements

1. Each child will find success, self-confidence, and independence in learning.

Goals:

  • To encourage children to take pride in their work and to strive for excellence at a level that is developmentally appropriate.
  • To provide, within an informal setting, a language- and play-based, child-centred, experiential approach to learning.
  • To provide for unique characteristics of learners through a variety of instructional techniques.

 

2. A positive atmosphere conducive to learning, mutual respect, and social responsibility will exist throughout the school.

Goals:

  • To create a learning climate built on mutual trust and openness, providing challenges and freedom to explore interests.
  • To help children develop strategies that will enable them to relate positively to others and their environment.
  • To foster the development of critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • To allow learners to take risks.
  • To value both routine and flexibility in balance.
  • To provide children with staff role models who are positive, supportive, enthusiastic, open, knowledgeable, and cooperative planners.

 

3. Creativity and a love of the arts will be fostered.

Goals:

  • To help children think creatively and imaginatively when openly exploring ideas.
  • To provide a rich classroom environment with a broad mix of resources.
  • To integrate music, movement, art, and drama into the program.
  • To develop an appreciation of fine arts by exposing children to quality works.

 

4. Parents will be partners in the education of their children.

Goals:

  • To involve parents in planning, organizing, and implementing programs for students, parents, and staff.
  • To be aware of and responsive to each child's background, environment, values, and aspirations.
  • To inform parents of the significance of their role in their child's progress.
  • To inform parents of the most critical aspects of child development and learning theory.

 

5. Staff will engage in professional development activities creating an atmosphere of lifelong growth.

Goals:

  • To value risk-taking in each creative and educational endeavour.
  • To accept responsibility for personal and professional growth.
  • To remain current with educational research and societal trends.
  • To support the role of the principal as the instructional leader in the school.

 

6. Evaluation will be used by children and teachers for program planning.

Goals:

  • To involve the learner in assessing personal progress and achievement.
  • To develop evaluation criteria relevant to the beliefs, goals, and objectives of the school.
  • To modify reporting procedures to accommodate a focus on the development of each child.
  • To use multiple assessment methods systematically to check student progress.
  • To continually diagnose academic needs and develop appropriate educational activities for students, considering learning styles and rates of learning.

 

7. A sense of community will exist.

Goals:

  • To foster an atmosphere where children, staff, parents, and community members interact supportively.
  • To value day-to-day events in each child's life outside of school.
