Principal’s Report

Yearbook…Lynn is in charge…yearbook is set to be $25.   Staff will look into less costly alternatives for next year.

Staff Wish List needs to be submitted at beginning of the year to CASC so priorities and budgeting can be done in an organized manner.

Principal for the day is the topic in writing.  The focus for this writing is to develop Voice (one of the writing Traits).

The Friends program is starting up in 2 weeks to help students deal with anxiety issues.   Teachers were also sent to a workshop earlier in the year in order to help children in the classrooms. Students will create a series of steps to cope with anxiety and then move these strategies into the classroom afterwards.

Class organization for next year is being discussed.  It is agreed that a gr.3-4 is difficult as it spans 2 divisions and makes planning difficult. Remedies are being discussed that will benefit students and make planning easier for teachers.

Arts initiative was very well received.  Staff is now thinking that each month the focus of electives in grades 1 to 6 would change…e.g., math focus, then a science focus.

Buddy system throughout the year is being talked about and planned.  Students would form buddies (like Reading Buddies) but it would become more formalized and students would buddy up for more than just reading throughout the year.

Numbers are low in Kindergarten for next year.

There is a marked improvement in lates..10 per cent decrease!!!

Heather Somerville continues to run the nook, 40-45 per day and it is a great success.

Money to principal….

Student Led conferences coming next week.

Friday…1:45 Sharing for classes (focus is Appreciation)…all parents welcome.

Wednesday , February 23r is wear pink day in support of a Bully Free School.

Tye Dye Toonie Tuesday went very well.

Snowshoeing  ¾’s are going.

Shelly requested funds for Scientists in the School Kinder’s but it was decided that these requests must come at the beginning of the year in order for budgeting to be done fairly.  It was suggested that tapping into the green apple fund might be an idea for next year.

ACTION Write down all funds given and review at end of the year

Yearbook funds cannot be asked for now.

ACTION Look  into cheaper yearbook ie Fielding

ACTION Directed fundraising by Lynn?

ACTION Look at how this yearbook is done and reevaluate.

4.

 Treasurer’s Reports

Made more $ than anticipated.

If we stay on track we dip in $6600…this is too much to dip into in the treasurers opinion. We need to make money instead of dipping into funds.

ACTION  Garage Sale ??  Someone needs to take on running this and organizing it.

ACTION  Sara will do CANTEEN with slushies.

ACTION  Megan  Family Movie Night  with Canteen  (with healthy food??)  Friday

School of Rock will charge for night performance which will bring in $$$.

ACTION   Find out Island Park and Lawn Bowling Garage sale….Sara

ACTION Pam  Get tables for garage sale at the board?  Church?  Churchill?

Arts Committee

Wonderful turn out and lots of volunteers.  Kids loved it.  Teachers loved working with various levels of kids

ACTION   Map out the Electives so parents can plan.  Electives will be each month based on a different area of curriculum.

ACTION   Ask the kids what they would like to see in the electives.  Megan wants to be cautious about asking the kids.  Just ask for input of both parents and kids. Thank you to everyone for all of the input.

  7.  Committee Updates

Education

Flyers went out today for the Speakers Series.

Last meeting talked about report cards.  There is some concern about grades on report cards among parents. Grove Equinox and Alpha do not send home report cards. Can this  be done at Churchill???

SUGGESTION:  Only share page 1 and use comments only as a discussion during student led conferences.

ACTION Talk to Jennifer (Trustee) and talk again in April.  Then talk to Superintendent.

10.

  ASAC Update

Trying to pull everything together.

Look at how tenents fit into Effectiveness framework

Good meeting in November  All chairs ASAC reps and principals and teacher reps were present at that meeting.

Last Meeting was not as good.

Moving toward defining the program

Megan found that the 7 tenents are there and we do not want to add or change.  Now we will move to find out how they fit in.

Goal is to market the program

Short term is a concern about the motions….

Really we need to grow the program and relay this to the parents now at Churchill.  Susan (at the board office) is asked about schools in the district and she does not know what the program is about.

ACTION Pam will meet with Megan and discuss what is in the School Improvement Plan that could help ASAC.  Link practices with what the board wants.

Secretary for this meeting was Janet Sheehan
